Is it just me or is the camera so slow on the G6. It takes great photos but launching it takes a while and sometimes lags to take a shot after you've pressed the shutter. I've had the G6 since released from AT&T and just can't get over the slow performance of the camera.

I've always noticed that in my LG phones. I tend to use manual mode though and the fact that the default camera app has focus peaking, it makes it real easy to lock in focus.

Just got the phone today and coming from pixel xl. Not that impressed with the camera actually. Loving the wide angle camera but the quality indoors at low light and front facing camera look average for a flagship phone. Hopefully they can improve this with software. I thought LG is pretty good at camera but lot to be desired from my limited use today.

Yeah, I don't get the "it's a bad camera" thing. Are people just looking for flaws in this phone? Because it's nearly perfect?

It's a great phone and I'm not just looking for flaws but rather just my experience. Like I said it takes great photos except the start up time on the camera is pretty slow and with indoors the shutter and auto focus is very slow too. Slower vs. the S7E, iPHone 7+ and Google Pixel. The V20 also suffers from this but not as bad as the G6. And Yes, I have all these phones to compare it to.
People need to be aware of these issues as none of the reviews I've watched mentions this as all their photo comparisons are all done in day light or very well lit situations. If the reviewer does show low light samples they are usually standard still shots or landscapes and don't mention the slow auto focus.

Lol, I hardly doubt that. Unless their review unit performed better than the release version but I hardly doubt that too.

Probaby 1 second on a good day. But it can be up to a 3 second delay.

I've noticed it on my V20 especially trying to capture quick pics of my sisters little yorkie doing some crazy stuff. I quickly open up the camera app and snap away but the pic doesn't take till a second or 2 later. It doesn't bother me much BUT if I came from those other phones with quicker response times I'd probably feel different. I'm looking to give Samsung another shot with their new devices but I'm weary of other things with them from previous experience. There are pros and cons to every device.

In my opinion, there's more to a phone than just the camera. I realize that the Pixel has a slightly better camera but stock Android is too boring for me. I like the little things that LG has added to Android to make it better.

Take HDR off and it'll be quicker. You don't 'need' HDR on this phone like you do with the Pixel.

Ive turned off the camera roll preview and that sped up the opening of the camera significantly.

I would guess the OP came from Samsung. The difference in focus and shutter speed is easily noticed.

I'm just saying what I heard and saw in reviews.. Not from usage.. I heard that the pixels photos without hdr+ aren't as good. Obviously you have first hand knowledge.

HDR+ Auto is designed to be on all the time. I haven't noticed it being detrimental to performance.
