My wife and I have had our EVO 3d's for two weeks now and love them for the most part. The primary issue that we have had is it taking blurry photos with moving objects. I have tried using the on-screen shutter button as well as the two step hardware button. Anything that moves in the slightest up close, comes out blurry because the camera seems to lag. We are coming from Palm Pre's which never had this problem. Do all of you have this problem? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

get a 3rd party camera app. You will still need to use the stock camera for 3d pics, but I have seen many post that say it is the software not the hardware and the 3rd party camera apps take much better pictures.

If anyone agrees with me, please suggest a few. I have not used any myself and would not suggest something I have not tried. I am addicted to the 3d pics at the moment. So I have stuck to the stock camera.

Camera should not do that. Mine takes great action shots. I was actually amazed at how good action shots come out. Try holding camera still for a few seconds after you hear picture snap.

zmann,

I will try to hold it still longer, but the main problem has been taking close-up pictures of my kid who obviously moves a lot. Could there be a difference if the moving subject is up close versus further away?

I have definitely noticed lag from where the subject is when I try and take the picture and to what is actually captured by the camera.

Does anyone else have this problem or know of a good 3rd party app like McPlot mentioned?

I have found that the shutter button on the screen is a drop faster in taking pictures then the hard button.
Since we Can't control the shutter speed, I would only take photos of kids and pets under bright light.

I have those 2 issues, plus low light low quality pics, and the camera locks up after a shot or 2.

Great article, but if you notice all of the sample pics are of stationary objects, I would like the author to show me a sample picture of a walking and crawling toddler. I am going through the same issues, I also came from a palm pre and lets face it we don't expect professional pictures out of our cell phones, but at least a decent snap shot that we can show our friends!!!!!

I used all of these tips mentioned and both of our phones still take blurry pics of our moving kid. Do you guys think that this is a hardware issue or one that can be fixed with a software update? It's getting really annoying taking blurry pics.

So you're saying that you tried under bright light? How about ISO 200 or 400?

Try to remember what I said....we can't control the shutter speed, so we need to shoot kids and pets under bright light or high ISO speeds to ensure a fast shutter speed to freeze the action.

I have found that since changing the review time I have been able to take pictures in rapid succession and have had success in capuring some great action shots. I have a stubborn cat that will not sit still, lol! I do admit, though, that since the update I do not have to modify the default settings as much as I did before. I have seen posts that the new update fixed the green hue for people that experienced this as well, so maybe this will help.

Here are a couple of motion pictures of my cat taken in low light. They turned out pretty decent considering, imho.

I'm shocked, the Palm Pre first gen took faster shots, then again it was a crap camera without autofocus. Is it possible to turn autofocus off on the 3D?

Yes, you can go into the camera settings and turn off auto focus. I also sometimes turn the face detection off as well. It just depends on what I'm photographing, for example I don't need that for scenery shots.

Point blank the camera on the 3D is not up to par to say the very least. Bash me if you you want and say that we're not using it right or whatever. But bottom line it should be more point and shoot than hold it this way that or that way or get an app that will help it out .. What are these cut outs from the Apple hand book on what to do when you've kicked a crappy phone?.
The thing over heats and takes crappy pics. There I said it . I love HTC and the EVO line. But the device is not living up to the hype . Let's face it . We may have picked the wrong device this time guys. Will I suggest this phone to anyone else? Absolutely not. In fact my wife and I both had EVO4G's, I upgraded to this and I am having her get a Photon. I hope that is a software issue as to why the phone phone that I couldn't wait to get is letting me down all across the board. If this is the case ,, for crying out loud HTC let's get crackin' with whatever it is that you plan on doping to fix these issues. To everyone that has this device , stop lying to yourselves and in the forums just to save face.. If you keep saying that it's all good then they'll just keep thinking that it is and do nothing about the real issues that exist with the device. HTC touch, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2, EVO 4G and now unsatisfied with the EVO 3D 2nd one at that...One.

Lol you are "having" your wife get a Photon?! Yeah, I'd love to see my husband try that on me. You know what opinions are like and you, sir, are a very condescending one.

You lost your argument at "Photon". I'd have respected this post more if you said you got her a feature phone, but every smartphone phone has it's pluses and minuses Every phone has bugs and quirks. You think the photon has none? Good luck. Also The Evo3D is a fantastic phone, It takes great low light photos, I'm ok with that.
