Camera Malfunction - Boots when camera app is loaded

Did you happen to check Google play store? I got two updates for the camera in the last day or so. Bug fixes and adds a barcode scanner. I have not had any camera problems but maybe these updates will help you out...

What the hell... now 2 weeks after I get my 2nd Turbo it starts doing the same thing... just spent over an hour on the phone with Motorola this time... ended up doing a factory reset and still the camera won't load. I'll be replacing another phone with a camera that won't load.

It's been a long time since I posted my original problem report and so far, knock on wood, my camera has continued to function just fine. Like someone else that posted a reply to this thread, when they got a replacement Turbo and did a factory wipe of the phone the camera started working again. This, to me, clearly is indicating that there is something that's becoming corrupt on the phone at some point but like you I was never able to figure out what it was. My suggestion would be to wipe your phone (I feel your pain already) and see if this returns the camera to a normal state. If it does work, I would then avoid restoring any photos that might have been backed up to the phone. I would then, perhaps, reinstall all of your apps one at a time and afterward I would verify that the camera still works. If you get a camera failure after installing one of your apps then I would then try removing hat app and seeing if that restores the app to normal. If it does then you've found your problem child. If the camera still works after all of your apps have been restored then I'm guessing that the corruption is in one of the photos. I realize that this may take some time to sort all of this out but in the absence of a known problem and known fix you're pretty much in what I call "divide and conquer" mode to try and figure out just what is causing your issues. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

One question for John B7.......

How up to date was your Android OS and your Apps when this malfunction occurred? I posted this problem on the Motorola Forum today and this was a question that was raised there. They were speculating as to whether this issue is a bad driver or some sort of corruption that may have already been fixed.

"some other extraneous file (i.e. something that tells the camera what the next incremental file name should be)"

That would be the database that the media scanner builds from scratch every time you start or restart the phone, so if you deleted all media files, that wouldn't be the problem. Everything points to a hardware problem - except the fact that the phone started working after a reset after you got the replacement. I chalk it up to IPIO - or ghosts. (It's one of those things that mankind isn't supposed to know about.)

Seriously - if the replacement works, I'd forget about it. I've seen a lot weirder things in electronics.
