camera not working

New to this but rooted evo 4g last year and working great. no custom rom installed yet. about month ago any app that uses camera will reboot it. any help would be great. am wanting to load new rom but would like camera to work first.

assuming you installed a custom recovery while rooting, try wiping cache and dalvik cache in recovery

also, any new apps installed about the time it started messing up?
