I've been carrying cameras around for years. I started in 1962 so I'm used to adapting to the limitations of the equipment. No zoom lens, ASA 400 was the fastest commercially available film, and I couldn't afford extra lens anyway. Now, I'm older than most trees and find the camera phones to be a miracle.
For me, the first component is the camera app. There are a lot to chose from but Google Camera works fine for me. I wish we could control f/stop but that's not here.
Then there is the actually hardware such as the lens and the flash. I seriously doubt there is much different from the best to the worst even if some carry fancy names such as Leica.
Then there is the processing software. For that, I think Google is the undisputed leader. Night Sight is a hoot and the blurring on the portrait mode works great.
