Camera quality is still the best

I've been carrying cameras around for years. I started in 1962 so I'm used to adapting to the limitations of the equipment. No zoom lens, ASA 400 was the fastest commercially available film, and I couldn't afford extra lens anyway. Now, I'm older than most trees and find the camera phones to be a miracle.

For me, the first component is the camera app. There are a lot to chose from but Google Camera works fine for me. I wish we could control f/stop but that's not here.

Then there is the actually hardware such as the lens and the flash. I seriously doubt there is much different from the best to the worst even if some carry fancy names such as Leica.

Then there is the processing software. For that, I think Google is the undisputed leader. Night Sight is a hoot and the blurring on the portrait mode works great.

I bought my first digital camera in 1998. There is absolutely no comparison.

Glad to see that the S10+ can hold its own against the Pixel. I can't wait for mine to arrive. I still don't like the smoothening of Samsung phones though.

Yeah...the noise reduction processing is a bit over the top. Samsung’s night mode (after the update) isn’t quite as good but still solid. Huawei’s Night Mode is even better than the Pixel’s, which is very impressive. However, with these long-exposure modes I find that either a tripod (which isn’t practical) or OIS is a must.

I agree.

I was told by Google to leave HDR+ to play it safe. You'll notice if you turn HDR off completely things look a little to light and fuzzy indoors, and with HDR+ Enhanced on all the time it looks to dark. Me personally I keep HDR+ on all the time except for night shots and landscapes. They said you don't have to do to much thinking because it has a form of artificial intelligence built into the camera so even with HDR+ on in the wrong situation it turns it off. 99% of the time it will think for you, kind of like Bixby or Google Assistant. It's way ahead of its time. Even with The Pixel 4 coming out in 2 weeks. The Google pixel 3a XL's camera still ranks #1 today!

I like them both. Each one has it's advantages.... The color pop more on the N10+

I'd like to see a combination of both. I do like the saturation on the N10+ but at the same time I like the color accuracy of the P3XL.

I'm keen to see if any pixel 4 features will come to the 3. Like astrophotography and the exposure settings (though that might be a multiple camera thing)
I've done a heap of comparisons to Samsungs s series and most of the time the pixel was better. Especially low light. Samsungs always smudge fine details together like fur/hair in low light. Sometimes materials as well like on cushions and whatnot. Also noticed weird light halos around edges of people's skin in bright daylight.
If I didn't have all these chances to compare I probably wouldn't even notice these things besides the low light smudging. Haha.

I have the 3XL and I hope it gets some of the P4 features. I've also done many comparisons and I agree the pixel mostly wins.
