Just wondering if there is a camera roll on the 6p other then Google photos. It seems like there could be but I haven't been able to find anything. When you take a picture it saves it to your phone then to Google photos. So I don't get why there isn't a camera roll of some type to view your photos. Anyone else find anything?

I'm not sure what you are looking for exactly but have you tried this? While in the camera app, tap the small preview circle at bottom right corner of the screen (it shows the last image you captured). Now, scroll the "filmstrip" to your heart's content.

Former iOS user? Camera Roll is how iOS displays pictures taken with the device, that's why I ask.

Photos is it. You may find an app to give you the display you're looking for but what more do you want than the ability to view the pictures you've taken and also do some basic editing? N4Newbie has also suggested the way to see the pictures while in the camera app.

Right I understand that I can open the camera app and click the circle and view all the photos I was just wondering if there was some sort of stand-alone and camera roll like in iOS 9 or on the Galaxy phones something along those lines it's not a big deal because of Google photos but i was just curious if there was something there that I overlooked and someone else may have found

Okay, well I am not an iOS guy and thus not familiar with the Camera Roll.

But, in case it is not obvious, open the Google Photos app, tap the three bar menu icon at the top left, and select Device folders from the list. In the view that follows, "Camera" should be at the top followed by any additional folders you may have created. In the Camera view you will find all images you have captured, scrollable in date order.

You can try downloading and using the app Focus. I use that as my camera roll because there doesn't seem to be any on this phone.

I hear what you're saying. No, Google Photos is your only option without installing a camera roll app. I actually prefer it that way since it's automatically backed up and I can access my photos from all my devices.

I like having Google photos. It's less confusing than having that and a Gallery app.

This. This. This.
Camera roll is a folder(or a database of photos) created by iOS when taken from ios camera
similarly camera roll photos on Android resides in a folder called Camera and you can access it by opening google photos-->menu(3 bar)-->device folder-->Camera section

Photos is the standard app for looking at your pictures. ES File Explorer also displays your pictures under Images. Another way to see them is to look at the Photos section of Google Drive which has all of your pictures, not just the ones you have on the phone. If you want to seem them in the context of when they were taken look at Your Timeline on Google Maps. Once you get over the creepiness of Google knowing every step you've ever made since you got your first Android phone it's actually really useful. Under Your Timeline you can look back in time and see every place you've been and if you took any pictures those will be there also.

Yes Google photos is nice. I'm aware of the folders in photos as well. It is nice having Google photos however on those days where you end up taking a ton of pictures you are going to be using kits of data uploading those pictures and videos to photos. So that was the only reason why I was curious about this. I will have to download an application for that.

Fixed that for you...

Sorry, after the recent changes to ES I can no longer suggest that app and try to guide others off of it. I removed it from my phone and tablet as soon as I got the first "you can clean up this much space" notification. Solid was worth the couple bucks I spent on it.

Photos is used to backup which you can set to only do over wifi automatically so you shouldn't be using a lot of data.

As for actual device folders (like iOS) it does this as well. Just click your menu and go to "device folders". From there you can look at stuff just in your camera, screenshots, and other folders.

I don't see why you object to the clean up notification, I really like it, I use cleanup all the time.

Wait - we are not talking about Google Photos on your PC; we are talking about the [Google] Photos app on your phone. It's there in the app drawer, listed as simply "Photos".

You have a little bit of flexibility in terms of how you want that backup to run... You want to save mobile data? Power? Only want to back up your pictures and not your screenshots? It'll accomodate you.
