High budget smartphone so the device should have min 16mp of rear pixel. Even a low budget smartphones are coming in 16mp

I was saying it would be better if it was with higher pixels...for this high budget smartphone

You do know that megapixels have nothing to do with camera performance, right? Sensor size and aperture are vastly more important both of which this camera is top class level.

The majority of the best phones on the market now have 12MP cameras.... the number of pixels, in and of itself, is meaningless.

S7, S7 Edge, Note 7, iPhone 7, iPhone7+, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, HTC 10... all 12MP

Huh? care to explain why, when as of right now the camera seems to be getting rav reviews?

Flagship smartphone with only a f2.0 aperture? Only 12MP image size?

A larger image gives greater detail (blades of grass, grains of sand, etc.) and allows for cropping to "zoom in" on portions of the photos. You simply can do more with a 5200X4038 image (21MP) vs. a 3940X2960 image (12MP)

Yeah, that's the latest talking point from Samsung and others. All things being equal, I'd rather have a 21MP image than a 12MP image.

MP don't mean everything, although if it is the same sensor as the N6P that is disappointing. For the price they are charging, should have went all in with camera as well.

Yeah, so? Some of us want it all--large aperture, bigger individual sensors, and bigger image size. And no, a f2.0 aperture is not top class level.

It's a slight improvement on the N6P sensor. 6P has the Sony Exmor IMX377 sensor; the Pixel has the Sony IMX378 sensor. Supposedly all the image quality differences comes from Google's new image processing software.

But you are failing to take everything else into account. Just because its 21mp does not automatically mean your "zoom in" will be of a greater quality.

Its not that simple

For this budget phone if its higher pixels means it wont lose much clarity even if we crop...we can do clean edits in a higher pixel pictures

But all things aren't equal.... Yes.. if they could stuff a 21MP sensor with a 2+ micron pixel pitch in these things, I'd be all for it. But the sensor housing would be pretty big to make room for the much larger sensor, lenses, etc. People found a sweet spot here... use a larger sensor and find a good compromise in terms of resolution. Yes, the 21MP gives more wiggle room when it comes to cropping, but the small sensor means you open yourself up to a lot more noise and optical issues. I'd rather have a clean 12MP image than a noisy 21MP one.

Yeah, it pretty much is that simple. Take two identical phone cameras, one with a 21MP sensor, one with a 12MP sensor, same aperture, same sensor element size, same processing software. 21MP will give you better picture--more detail--and greater ability to crop areas of the photo to your satisfaction.

Im agreeing it brother! :)

All manufacturers are aware of the misconception that many people have that higher mp is always better regardless of everything else.

They moved to 12 mp because it gives the best user experience

OK, it's only a matter of time. Give it 18 months for the phone camera wars to go to the next level.

Yep.

Yes if everything remained equal, however in doing so the package size of the camera would not be the same...so again its not that simple.

Also check out the review of the camera...it really sucks https://www.dxomark.com/Mobiles/Pixel-smartphone-camera-review-At-the-top
