Camera shuts off when I use the stock camera's flash

I had this problem and in my case was the battery problem. See, the battery sometimes sends wrong info to the system. In my case it was indicating that I had about 40% battery. I used the camera with flash and it immediately turned off. Happened several times. But after the last restart, battery was telling me that it was critically low. This means it was low before and not 40% and when battery is low you cant use flash so I think thats the reason it shuts down the phone.

I agree with this one, I've had this problem start about 2 months ago but it was on and off, and sometimes with battery with low percentageon it but evey once i a while wjth a 80 or 90% battery, the last few days it got worse and i couldn't use the flash at all anymore so i decided to look on here to see if somebody knew the problem, so following the thread ( after thr usual stuff i did to make it work ei. reboot, battery pull on black screen and home, power and, back buttons not working on black screen). I tried the first one: clearing cached data, that didnt help me even after the reboot right after the clear so on to the next thing charge battery did tha and still wouldn't let me at all use the flash anymore even on a full battery so keep reading bad batteries well it just so haplens i carry 3 batteries for my s3 so take battery out pop an other one in and voila!!! Problem solved and it didn't do it once to me since i changed it so i labeled my bad battery to know it does it and see if it keeps doing it when i cycle through to use it again

same thing happened to me recently and it was the battery, but i did clear the data after that too. Yeah i had a generic back up battery so i put the factory in it and it works fine now.

if you got an aftermarket flashlight installed it will be running causes your camera not to work with the flash it will crash your phone and you'll either have to pull battery or hook a charger to it to reboot your phone

The same thing has been happening to me too I have after market batteries - and they're starting to expand in the center like they're going out so maybe this is the reason why my phone keeps shutting off

A friend of mine had this problem and asked if i could solve it for him It turned out that it was the antivirus causing it to crash I uninstalled the antivirus and it worked fine after that I also reinstalled the same antivirus as it was a good one the problem started when he put the applock on his phone and he used pattern passwords hopefully this will help anyone with a similar problem

I'm curious - when you say that 'it shuts your phone off' - exactly what is happening? Does the screen go black? Have you tried pressing the Home button as well as the Power button? What about the Back button?
I only ask because I've encountered behaviour before where the screen goes completely black and turning it off/on with the Power button left it in that same state, but the phone was actually on and pressing the Back button took me right back to where I was.
It's just too strange that both you and your wife are having the same problem - almost like something got loaded on them that's causing this, which is why I want to be sure you've tried the other buttons.

I have to concur. After reading this thread and comparing the experiences here with mine I've determined that the reason my phone is behaving this way is due to the aftermarket battery I have installed. The factory battery was wearing out so I bought this cheap replacement just this last week and that is when my phone (Note 4) started having this issue. I'm going to buy an new Samsung battery and see if this fixes the issue.

I think is the ba3 ..cause I just plug it to charge now I took like 10 pictures d phone did not go off...

I MEANT to write that the PHONE shuts off when I use the stock camera's flash, NOT what's in the title, sorry, typo..


When I use my stock camera's flash it shuts my phone off and I have to do a battery pull. Any ideas what the problem may be? I've tried researching it but have come up with no answer yet..Thanks in advance!

Mine does this too. Verizon solution was a factory reset. It worked for about 3 or 4 months and has started again. Any way I take pictures. Not just flash.

Same issue experience when taking picture w/ flash on the galaxy s5 shuts down

I went into app manager and performed clear data and force shutdown for stock camera app; restarted phone. Next, tested the following:

1. Plugged phone in and took picture with flash off. .phone worked fine
2. With still phone plugged in, turned flash on, took picture...phone worked fine.
3. Unplugged phone from charger, flash off, took picture... phone worked fine
4. Phone unplugged from charger, flash on, took picture...phone worked fine.
5. Phone unplugged from charger, flash-auto, took picture...phone worked fine.

Summary:
I'll see if this issue continues but have a backup camera for special events so you dont get burned....like S7 Note users (no pun intended..ha!)

I am going to buy a new battery since it is original.

I think it is a battery issue because i have a problem either wuth general camera shooting but when i replace the battery with a copy one it is solved the problem except the shooting with flash so am searching for an oem battery now

happens the same to my Grand Prime.. a few minutes ago, i was running 41% battery when i took a picture and it flashed and it turned off.. i turned it on again and the battery was 5%.. what the heck! Its some sort of hardware/software conflict.. i dont know what to do

I had the exact same problem with my LG. I bought an off-market battery. Apparently a quick drain will cause the battery to fail.

On my Nexus 6p after replacing the battery with a new one that seems to otherwise be working fantastic, if battery charge is ~60 or less and I take a picture with HDR turned on, the phone dies and won't turn back on unless I plug it into a charger. Only have to plug it into the charger to turn phone on, then unplug and battery is still at same charge as before it died and works great as long as I don't take HDR photos. Works fine with flash on or off, but HDR must be off.

I'm not sure if this was happening before I changed the battery, because it was my son's phone before that, and he rarely took pictures. The reason for changing the battery on this 1.9 year old 6p is because with original battery it would shutdown at 15% life remaining, and it drained very fast. New battery does not have this problem and has great battery life, but does have the HDR problem. Got new battery off Ebay, as have a lot of other 6p owners with good results.

One other curious thing is that if I leave phone on charger for a few hours after fully charged, battery level starts to go down while on charger. This was also true with original battery. Other phones I've had stay at 100% no matter how long on charger. It is supposed to be safe to leave plugged in, as charging technology now protects from overcharging. But my Nexus 6p seems to cut off charging altogether after it's been at 100% for a few hours.

My fix for the phone dying while taking pictures is to turn off HDR in my 6p camera app.
