Taking 'super resolution' photos on the Nexus 6P | Android Central

In case y'all missed this, this is compatible with the Nexus 6 as well. Download @ https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...com.anforapps.camerasuperpixel&token=MNLZrUd0

I just downloaded and tried it, and initial impressions are great if you are taking a shot with no motion and have either very steady hands or preferably some sort of tripod. There's no HDR mode, but this would definitely do better for larger scale printing/display.

I'll try and take a couple of (very amateur) shots in a bit for side-by-side comparison of the stock app vs. this and post later. Just note that the file size is considerably larger (8320 × 6240 is 51.9MP, generating about a 10MB file per shot).

Edit: Here's a sample taken with the 'Camera Super Pixel' app and then immediately retaken with the stock camera app. https://photos.google.com/share/AF1...?key=TlZEck1BWm5qWi1hX0NsWGhKVlVaM1lDaTV3YjN3. The difference isn't readily apparent until you zoom in, and is mostly in the extent to which you can do so.

Thanks. This is good to know. I saw that story but assumed it was just a 6P thing.

I can't spot any key differences in your pictures on my crappy old work PC, but I'm eager to check 'em out at home.

The real benefit would be if you were looking to print in very large format, or if you were looking to crop and enlarge a specific portion. I think the below, derived from the two photos in the album I linked in the original post, pretty well illustrates the difference:

There's a substantial and real difference in the resolution of the image captured - the app is actually delivering. And those photos were taken holding the camera freehand - I would expect results to be even better with a steadier hand or a tripod.

I wouldn't recommend this as a general replacement (results with anything moving in the image are... pretty bad) but it's definitely worth checking out, and a great tool in certain scenarios.
