Camera update? Do US One's really have it?

Reading this forum, I was already pretty convinced that the US versions on the One had the camera update already installed. But I made a trip over to XDA and they seem to suggest that we DO NOT have the update.

not true check ur camera app if its not 5.0.582172 its not the latest camera the article saying north american one was up to date was wrong..the only number that matters is the end of the ota 1.29xxxxxxxx.10 which is not the latest the most recent is .16 you guys got .10 and i beleive the new camera starts @ .11 ...check ur camera apps ppl

If this is correct, mine didn't get the update. My camera is version 5.0.569008 . Software version 1.29.651.10.

Is there any definitive official document or something that clears this up once and for all?

Rob

my camera version is the same as yours, im still on the 1.26.502.12 software version (AT&T version that is)

Phil fromAC has repeatedly stated that the NA phones all have the camera update already. Not sure what to believe at the moment.

I flashed an new rom on my phone that has the 1.29 camera update from the international phones and the camera is way better. I would say no the NA 1.26 software does not have the camera update

First picture is stock and the second is a Rom with the international update. I can't tell any difference. Both pictures are with default settings.

Ask Phil why both my wife's and my camera takes horrible, blurry pictures half the time. Our 3 year old htc evo 4g takes clearer pictures than our one's.

Just from the thumbnails you can see the second picture is brighter especially the whites

AC got their information straight from HTC. Why would they lie knowing they could/would get caught? Stop paying so much attention to version numbers....

Yeah, me also. Definitely not the *.12 that tower mentioned, above. Also have the older version camera app. Not sure what to believe, but I want the latest and best software, because I am just NOT a natural photog!

Stop paying attention to version numbers? Wow. In all my decades of computer and device usage, I can honestly say I have never heard that advice before! Version numbers should be indicative of newer software. There should be a pattern for us to at least somewhat follow (I.e. not just random numbers). Now that doesn't mean that whatever issue that is bugged is fixed with that newer version..but that's a separate issue. Maybe what you are meaning is don't compare international to NA version numbers? On that I would agree.

Every HTC One that was shipped in April, worldwide, has the same version of the camera firmware on it. The retail devices that shipped in March internationally have been updated. The non-retail devices that are still out there have not been, and won't be, updated.

This comes direct from HTC. Even The Hardware Zone, the Singapore site that started all this cofusion with incorrect info the first time around, has updated their posting with this information.

In short, unless you have an engineering sample, or corporate demo HTC One, you have the current, ISO adjustment-fixed, version of the camera firmware. Of course, once you start flashing ROMs, all bets are off.

Can you provide a link to that thread? I would like to read it.

This wasn't in a forum, this was direct email with Jeff Gordon, Senior Global Online Communications Manager at HTC Corp. I can paste the relevant portions of the email here though.

The update offers enhanced camera tuning and improved system performance and stability. Specifically for the former -

- Improvement to sound capture with Zoe
- Noise reduction in slow motion movie capture
- Improved colour reproduction and dynamic range (reduced over-exposure in non-HDR images) in certain conditions
- Fix to display correct ISO in EXIF information when ISO settings are manually changed by the user

The update is rolling out in waves across Europe now, and is already baked into the firmware in North American and Asian versions of the One.

I can see a difference. First picture is darker and has more noise. Second picture is lighter has less noise and I can see more detail in the objects on the shelves. Of coarse all of that could be related to what it was focused on.

Sorry Jerry was asking OP for link. I have read what you posted some time back. Just wanted to read the thread from xda.

In this case, the version number doesn't matter. The US versions had these fixes integrated into their firmware. We know that for a fact. The version number may be different because the us versions came with it, while the european models needed an update in order to get the fixes.

That's what I meant. Sorry, I should have been more specific.

Even carrier to carrier could be different.

I'm not sure we can determine the reality of the situation. You have to either choose to believe the HTC rep or not.
