Camera update? Do US One's really have it?

Why not? I used to do it all the time on my iPhone? I still have situations where I need to do this. It's clearly a realistic use case if I have a need to do it and my previous device did it successfully.

I'm done with the apologists. Enjoy the only weak point of this device. The camera is not good, it's adequate.

It is not a realistic use case. You may do it, but that doesn't make it realistic.

Also, it's fairly telling that you consider anyone that has a different opinion of the camera an apologist. The camera on the One is as good, if not better, than the one on the iPhone 5. I've owned both and taken numerous pictures with both. The One is significantly better.

Fine, remind me not to trust you opinion on anything to do with cameras and photography. I would guess that you may convince the uninformed with your talk but those who know better can look at the links I provided earlier are just look at shots in the camera sticky to see that the camera is quite capable and much better than adequte. To call it the weak point of the phone is laughable.

If your complaint boils down to I can't crop 70% of the image and still get a shot that looks good at full screen, then I don't think you will find much disagreement. But while you may say it is a reasonable use case, it doesn't fit with the purpose of the camera, which was to allow good low light performance, responsiveness, adn incredibly fast FPS. It is like the old car racing saying "fast, reliable, and cheap, choose 2". In this case you have "low light performance, cropable, fits in a phone, choose 2".

I am definately not an apologist. I have pretty high standards for photography. The camera has exceeded my expectations. If it was merely adequate I would be disappointed and I would have no qualms about trying a different phone that reasonable could have a better camera. There just isn't one available. Not on iOS and not on Android.

I have a Canon DLSR and a Sony RX100 22mp large sensor pocketable compact that I love. This phone allows me to leave both at home most of the time. Both the Canon and the Sony obviously much better cameras and are much better for low light, particularly if a flash is needed, have better dynamic range, and are necessary for times when a longer focal length is needed. Otherwise I am more than happy with the One camera and the quality of the images it produces. It certainly is easier to carry, share files from, and is much more fun to use.

Ok, how about this, it's not the use case the One was designed for. HTC said, if I remember correctly, in the press event for the One that their research showed by far the most common uses for cell phone cameras were sharing on Facebook, Instagram, and other web entities and that little editing was done on them and they designed the camera accordingly. Just like their research showed that most people don't use more than one home screen, so they designed the home screens accordingly. Your camera use cases are not what this camera was designed for. It was designed for Moms and Dads like me who want to take a bunch of Zoes of our kids at the zoo and then share a highlight reel. I'm not going to say yours isn't a realistic use case, it's just not the one this camera was designed for.

If it was zoomed as you say? I didn't do it manually

I did receive my replacement one yesterday. At first I thought I had issues with the camera again. But pictures look better now. Also my back button responds better too Btw picture was taken in low light with auto focus

Good. I have seen a few people with focus problems report improvement after getting a replacement. I would say if you have focus issues there is a good chance that the unit is defective.

Have you only taken the one picture?

I had more pictures, but that phone was replaced. I'd say 50/50 in terms of getting a good clear picture. Replacement one seems to have fixed the camera and back button issue.
Also, I'd like to add with the replacement phone? HD voice is super clear and louder than my first one which I thought sounded great during a phone call. But the difference for me is noticeable

Glad to hear. It really seems it's just defective units. Every single time someone would post blurry pictures I figured "defective phone" or "are they just trying to start an argument?" because my experience with the camera had been the exact opposite. I will say the one picture we told you was zoomed was pretty obvious but you may not have noticed the zoom control being up. I accidently zoomed once when trying to spot focus and this may have happened to you without realizing it. I've just made a habit of looking at the zoom bar whenever I open the camera to take pictures. I'd love to just disable the thing. Anyhow, glad you got some problems solved with a replacement phone. Happy snapping.

I had the auto focus issue until about 2 minutes ago. Same thing you guys are explaining. I have been dealing with it since I got my phone a month ago because if I tapped the screen enough times I could get a decent shot. I started messing with settings and changed the video resolution settings down from full hd to hd. After doing this my camera started focusing perfectly. I'm in a fairly dark room and its working great. I changed the video resolution back to full HD and auto focus is still working perfect. And yes it's working on the still camera as well as video. I'm not sure why it was stuck but switching the resolution, getting a focus, then switching the video resolution may be all you need to do. I actually just wrote HTC to find out what I needed to do to return it which I will not be doing now. It is a legitimate issue and hopefully this will help someone.
