Can a M8 Asian Version be hacked to work on America's LTE signal?

A friend recently got an HTC M8 Asian Version, due to the network, it doesn't receive the LTE signal from this hemisphere.
I heard from somebody that they could hack the OS and have it working with the local network and show LTE signal.

I doubt that the hardware is identical when it comes to networks, which is why there are different variants like U, UL, etc.

"Hacked" is such a harsh word. I prefer "Gently Enhanced".

Apparently there is a way to activate all bands. It's on XDA somewhere

I thought it was a hardware issue, so apparently they can change something in the OS and have it working with local LTE?
