External Music storage

Hi,

I've been using Cheetah Sync to sync my (32GB) N10 music library with my (win8.1) PC and Power Amp as my music player. Thus, home or away, my whole music collection is available. This has worked well until last week when I got a message saying no more room on the N10.

I have Nexus Media importer installed and a working OTG cable and have tried loading some music folders onto USB stick. While it is possible to use NMI to select an individual music file, I can't find a way to give Power Amp access to the external storage for its library. This "one file at a time" approach is fine for films, select the file and watch for 2 hours, but no use at all for music!

Can anyone suggest a way of enabling a music player app "proper" access to external storage? I've been unwilling to Root up till now but will give it a go if it looks like that would provide an answer.
