Backup Of Original Rom Before Installing Cyanogenmod

Hi,

could you suggest me how to backup original software from my HTC One M8 before installing CyanogenMod, please? (I haven't found it in FAQ). I want to try this custom ROM but also be sure that I can revert any changes if I would like to do it. I have encrypted device.

Is it sufficient just to copy everything I have on the internal memory to the computer? Or are there some hidden partitions that I cannot easily access when I connect HTC to my computer with Ubuntu or Windows?

Regards!

PS My original question was here (forum cyanogenmod org topic 100792-backup-of-original-rom-before-installing-cyanogenmod) but unfortunately there were no replies. (I cannot post full URL because I don't have 10 posts).

My Verizon M8 does not support Cyanogen. Which do you have?

Hi,

I think this is not Verizon but how can I check it? I think it is possible to use it with Verizon though, according to what is written on CyanogenMod wiki (I would like to provide link for your convenience but it is against your forum rules).

I have also read a little more about Android and I wonder - does PDroid work well with CyanogenMod? (Is it worth to install it)? On Play Store (again, I can't give you the link) I could see some time ago that it has to be added with AutoPatcher before installing MOD like Cyanogen. Is it worth to install PDroid or is there already similar thing included with CyanogenMod? How does it differ from App Ops Starter? (I could install it and use even on original ROM in HTC One).

Well, I like original ROM in M8 but unfortunately there are some things I cannot do. The first thing is ensuring privacy, there is no way I can know what private data are sent to Google or other companies. This is not pure Android but version with some modifications that I cannot know.

It is recommended on Prism Break website (again, I cannot give the link for your convenience because it would violate your forum rules) to replace Android with custom ROM line CyanogenMod or Replicant.

The other thing is security. There are many applications that are good but unfortunately they have unreasonable requirements for privileges. This is either all or nothing (I am not sure if App Ops Starter solves it completely). I cannot choose which privileges I want.

I cannot ensure that no private data are sent to third parties (first of all original ROM in M8 has many preinstalled apps with meaningless names that I cannot find any description in the internet or settings, in CyanogenMod I guess there will be less amount of misterious PUPs).

I have some doubts about verifying outgoing internet traffic. I have installed some kind of firewall that uses VPN internally (it behaves as if there was connection to VPN, even if there is no real VPN). But unfortunately I cannot inspect packages or which locations in the internal memory of HTC are being accessed by apps (to ensure that no private data is sent to the outside world).

In other words, there are many things I cannot control. I want to check if CyanogenMod will help me with providing more control over what apps do in my smartphone and thus ensuring privacy and security of my data.

When I download the Cyanagen installer I get a box saying phone not supported. Again, this is a Verizon M8

Hi, I recommend you search on Google for "verizon htc m8 cyanogenmod" and check the first link. It has two sections: "All non-Verizon variants: HTCDev Unlock" and the second: "All variants: S-OFF". You may be interested in the first one. Sorry I cannot provide you the link to the website but it is not allowed according to this forum rules.
