Can Copy Videos but cant play them

Hi guys,

I just noticed several days ago that the videos i copy to my external sd card couldn't be played. If i copy on the device storage it can be played though.

First i thought this was the dreaded sd card problem that kitkat users are experiencing. Then i tried to copy other file formats like pictures, pdf, music. I still can copy and open them. Its just videos that i'm having issues.

What do you guys think.

Galaxy s4
Android 4.4.2 kitkat
Provider: SG Singtel
non rooted GT-I9505

Welcome to Android Central! Which video player app are you using? Can the player locate the files on the SD card and just not play them, or does it not even see them there? What file format are the videos in?

Im using the default video player. Tried to open the same video file using VLC. Same problem.

It does see the video file when i copy them, file format is mp4.

The SD card might be failing or getting corrupt. Unmount the card in Settings>Storage, remove it, and insert it into your computer. Then run chkdsk: http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...guide-using-chkdsk-fix-corrupted-sd-card.html

By the way ive checked the sd card using windows' chkdsk. Still getting the same issue. I'll probably do a format. If that doesn't fix it i'll just get a new one.

Update:

Won't even let me format the card. I'll just be replacing it.

Conclusion: card is corrupted.
