Can I add words to the Google voice typing feature?

I use Google voice typing for almost everything. I use it for text messages, I use it for emails, I use it to search the web, etc etc etc. one thing that drives me absolutely anything is that I can't teach it words. My sons name is Xander, spelled with a Z, but the app will only spell it with an X. similarly my daughter's name is Hailyn, after the band Van Halen, but if the voice engine doesn't make her name Helen, then its spelled Halen after the band. I find myself correcting these and a few other things many, many times a day.
