Can I configure Android Auto to work automatically?

I have a S5 that I update regularly. My question is regarding Android Auto.

When I plug my phone into my wife brand new Chevy Malibu with the MyLink system Android Auto works flawlessly.

When I use Android Auto strictly on my S5, I have a problem. I have to stop Android Auto and turn-on the micophone and volume on the media sound.

Is there a way to configure Android Auto to automatically turn on the microphone, turn the media?

Anybody? I have read about an app launcher would that help? Hit the icon and while AA starts the mic volume and media volume turns up?
