I just got a new google pixel fold (not the absolute latest model, but an unused device) and it is indeed a thing of beauty.

my one issue so far: I am finding it impossible to connect my macbook pro with the google messages app on the phone.

in the past I was able to do this with my older Galaxy (c2022) phone, but I can not do it with the new phone.

I keep scanning the QR code, but the page with messages does NOT load at all on my MacBook. zero! zip! nada! bupkis!

any suggestions? thanks as always!

(also posting this on Macrumors...)

thanks ... have been using google chrome. I also tried using the app TEXTY and that also gets frozen on the QR CODE scan... which always worked on the old Galaxy.

thanks!

In case some extension is interfering, try accessing the Messages for Web site in Incognito Mode. (This is assuming you haven't allowed any of your extensions to work in Incognito Mode as well.)

thank you!

1. not using a VPN.

2. I can't find a setting for "background data" but I do see one that says "Data Server"—I don't know if that is connected to "background data"— okay, yes, I will turn it on. I will see what happens!

rats—still not working... I gather that "background data" is NOT the same thing as "Data Server"

I can NOT find a setting for "background data" on the Pixel Fold! I will keep looking!

PS: I did find "background data" for the google messages app, and it was on all along ... so I guess that is not the solution! I will keep looking ... thanks again!

Ok, try rebooting your router by unplugging its power for 30 seconds. Also, if possible, test your laptop using some other wi-fi network, like at your local public library or coffeehouse.
