Android Central Question

I bought a timkoo Q3E player from amazon, and it is running android kernal version 3.4.67 and when I try to install apk it says For security your phone is not allowed to install apps from unknown sources, and when I go to settings the option is not there, I don't know what to do. Does anyone know how to install apk from unknown sources when the option is just not there?

I have the same issue. I downloaded a snapchat apk and when I clicked it it popped up that "install block" but there has to be a way to bypass that!?

please contact me if you figure it out!!

Welcome to Android Central! Why are you installing Snapchat as an apk? Install it from the Play Store. FYI, we don't allow discussions about hacked/modded apps, so if that's why you're installing it as an apk, then you'll have to take your discussion elsewhere.

Because it is a MP3 player based on Android , no Keyboard , no Internet Browser , no youtube , no Playstore. I would like also to install a Browser on it like google . Thank you in advance

.. and we dont want to hack or modd something , only to figure out , what apps would fit on the device , what Android version it is and how to enable on this version " install aps from unkown sources"

These "Android based" devices are not useful for anything more than their basic functions. From hardware conflicts, software incompatibility, lack of updates, to zero security, it's simply not advisable to install apps and such on those devices even if you found a way to try it. If you want something you can use like a pocket computer, then you'll need to invest in something sold as a full fledged Android phone or tablet, not an mp3 player with a highly stripped down and outdated version of the Android OS on it.

And to be clear, those devices may work well for their intended purpose. I once owned a satellite radio tuner that ran on a stripped down version of Android, and it worked rather well for that purpose. But in no way would I have attempted installing a browser or anything else on it.

" android kernal version 3.4.67 "
I tried a chrome for android 3.0 and it sais the device is not allowed to instal for "unknown sources"
With newer software it gives Parsing error.
I know the device is not to use like a PC :) I bought it for my son who has a trip at school were tablets and phones
are not allowed , only mpr3 players. But since I saw that the device has a WiFi and an android UI i thought maybe to install
a browser , thats all ..Otherwise i would have gave him one of my older mobiles . but they are not allowed :)

That throws another wrench into things. I wouldn't be surprised if that idea backfires (assuming you ever get it to work) and it gets confiscated from your son for being caught with what you are effectively turning into a tablet.

It is not the case , as long as it has no Simcard and it does not look like a tablet or phone to the other kids , only 4" display
so he will be fine with it . If i have had bought the Q9 in the place of the Q3E it would have been the same thing , but with a browser preinstalled .
What actually bothers me is that , 6-7 years ago , i was putting custom firmware of almost every android phone , rooted them and did
whatever I liked to , same with FireTV sticks and now with a simple device , where its only half Android 3 version on it , i cant
install a simple app ...so this became a challenge for me.

If you used to root, ROM and generally tinker with Android, you should probably already know that the Android version and kernel version are not the same thing.

And if it was running Android 3 (which if I remember correctly was Honeycomb, a tablet only build) thennn pretty much no apps would work with it anyway.

I assume , i could find an APK with a Chrome ore other Internet browser .
Guys , really ? It was 6-7-8 years ago . Everybody tried to help
out with the problem , to solve it , to give a hint , to try or figure something out.
What I get from you is only : " oh , if you want a tablet buy something else" ,
" if your son is gone use this device mabe it will get confiscated" , " if its Honeycomb nothing its going to work"
look at yourselves , only pesimistic remarks , no hint , not a good idea , a plan or some hope.
If it will continue in this note I will turn into a huge depression.
Come on ! Some teamwork and positive ideas ...
Thank you ...

Is there any reason why you want to break the rules that your son's school has given? If he has special needs, then you should talk to his teacher and principal. They will be able to make proper accommodations for his disability. If your son does not have a disability, then most adults will not provide any help to let him break the rules on his school assignment.

Inconvenient truths do be inconvenient.

For starters, we are mostly enthusiasts, not developers. We know some things about what is and isn't feasible, and how limited many devices are. It's not being pessimistic, it's facing reality. That device is not designed to have other apps installed, so of course you'll not be able to do so easily. If it were possible, you'd likely have already figured it out or found others with a solution.

The only possible solution I can think of is rooting and installing a custom ROM. Because this is an obscure no-name device sold for cheap, none of the aftermarket developers are going to be interested in making a custom ROM for this thing. Which means your only option is to create a ROM from scratch yourself, or pay out the nose for a developer to attempt it. And there's still no guarantee it'll be successful.

As for your comment about this sending you into a "huge depression," I would say you are either being overly melodramatic or need to grow thicker skin. No reason your inability to install Chrome on a device not meant to run Chrome should do anything but make you a little disappointed. You won't get positive ideas simply because you want them. If that were the rule, you'd not be getting any replies and probably get upset that no one is offering any advise.

Yall are making this a huge deal for no reason?! Thanks for the "help"???

Your very welcome!

No one is making a big deal about this, but it's worth bearing in mind that, as Mooncat says, we're mostly just regular people who happen to have learned a decent amount about Android. As far as I'm aware, no one on this forum has magical or supernatural abilities and can not make this device do something it wasn't intended to do. even if you really, REALLY want us too.

Especially when you're either not able or not willing to provide us with the information we request.
