Coming from a Samsung Note 7. Just wondering if app badges exist on pixel. Currently no app badges for unread mail count or text msgs etc.

Wife bought a pixel and I was dumbfounded that naked android (on google phones) does not have app badges (count numbers on each app) I would NEVER have bought this nice hardware (shockingly lacking OS)!!!

Tried other launchers on MY time and felt 3rd party launchers lost my apps and layout and non for me delivered app badges (count numbers). I had to download a few duplicate functioning apps (messaging etc) that unread message counts where built into the app.

I've had android developers / support folks actually berate me for wanting something so dumb as app badges built into android: "naked android does not need no stinking badge counts!". I'm a business user and find naked android un-usable.

LOL then there's the soft notification sounds. OMG great hardware but amateur operating system and insensitive (and reality aware) developers / support folks. :(

This is nearing the end of 2017 why do users have to do this? Why doesn't a sane and usable OS come on this modern hardware?

Androids notifications was originally designed to be on the notification shade, not app counts. That was iOS style. A lot of people never found the need for that since you are supposed to see all pending notifications in the shade. However I see the problem since I tend to just want to always clear the shade.

Third party launchers fix those because a launcher is an app that serves as your homescreen. When installing a new one you lose the original layout because it's a different one. There are launchers which support importing layouts from another launcher at the click of a button though.

I am currently using Nova launcher with Tesla Unread and I have notification badges. Pixels get notification dots on the new updated Pixel Launcher.

Because it's a niche request with a limited number of users who'd a) want it and b) not be able to figure out how to properly install a new launcher?

Lol badges are coming in Oreo. You're reasoning is wrong. Google simply didn't care enough to hear it's users before, but now they do.
