Can I get rid of status icons in the notification bar?

It also states that it basically creates on overlay on top of whatever is there, so whatever you choose to show in the app's settings (wifi, network icon, etc) would be a fake image, same as the numbers that would represent the clock and the battery. They have no bearing on what your actual settings are.

One thing that is driving me crazy since switching to a Samsung are all the icons that are always there. I do not need or want the NFC, Bluetooth, or alarm icons present.
