AC Question

I have a dual Band Router my Tab 4 (8") has no problem connecting to the 2.4 Ghz but keeps dropping the connection if I connect to my 5Ghz signal the two networks have different SSID's. My Laptop connects to the 5Ghz via a USB adaptor and gives a strong reliable and fast connection 100Mbps or better so it's not the router. It's not a major issue just an irritation

Re: 5Ghz WiFi Problem

It could be the phone, it could be the encryption used in the router. Since we don''t know which version of Android it's running, which router it is and what encryption it's using, there's not much to go on. (TKIP [or TKIP+AES] encryption can be a problem with some Android devices from KitKat up.)

Netgear WNDR3700 V4 WPA-2 Personal AES
Android 4.4.2 KOT49H.T330XXU1ANH2
Galaxy Tab 4 8" SM-T330

Re: 5Ghz WiFi Problem

Netgear (surprisingly) is one of the decent routers that got it right. I had to revert to using one of theirs when KitKat wouldn't work with Linksys.

Remember, though - it's 100MBPS from the router to the laptop, it's still 20mbps (or whatever you're paying for) from your provider to the router and about 2mbps tops from some server out there in the world to your provider - so your download speed for a single connection is still going to be limited to 2mbps. I wouldn't even call it an annoyance, just a fact.
