My Samsung Galaxy S6 Gear VR issue (crash)

So, I might have some problem with actually describing this problem that just yesterday occurred. I'll try. So, basically, when I put my charger in (doesn't matter which one) the screen flimmers for some bit and then this computer generated voice tells me about virtual reality, but it's not that easy to hear what's being said. Then this grey X appears in the corner and absolutely nothing happens. I have to force its reboot, but it just happens again. But only when the charger's in. I once managed to install the Gear VR and it seems that the problem disappeared. However, when I deleted the app it happened again. And now I don't have the ability to install it like I did yesterday. The phone seems functional behind the black screen. I can hear the volume being turned up when I push the volume-buttons and it's vibrating. And when I remove the charger the screen works. I don't know what to do. Has anyone in here been experiencing something similar?

I have the same problem! Only it also happens when my phone isn't connected to the charger.
When I connect it to the charger and take it of again the problem solves itself untill it happens again!

The same problem occured with my phone 10 mins ago.

I found you guys after looking for a solution online.

My phone is only 1 week old. Wtf is wrong with Samsung.

I have the same problem when I am plugged into a charger. Samsung S6. Seems to have started after that last system update a few days ago.

Hi guys, the same thing happened to my phone Samsung S6 because of Samsung Gear application which I did not even install, the screen is totally blacked out and now the battery is totally depleted even when put on charger for hours.

Can someone please help me?

so damn annoying. There is a similar post on this forum. I suspected that these problems were linked together.
Google galaxy s6 black screen small x to bring up the post. No solution yet.

Re: My Samsung Galaxy S6 Gear VR issue (crash)

Same. Ended up bringing in phone to service department. It had nothing to do with software. Charging port was damaged and plugging it in makes the phone think you're plugging in data transfer cable or gear vr. It progressively got worse until the point the phone would just go crazy trying to charge it. Phone was under warranty. Replaced & no issues since. Wireless charging only for me from now on as I'm not taking the chance of damaging the port again, though I'm unsure how it happened in the first place. Maybe my situation was a one-off, but my bet is that your port is fried somehow. As a side note, since I have only been "slow" wireless charging with the new phone, my accelerometer has had no issues like it did before when it was only functional maybe half the time. Maybe rapid charging causes too much heat? I'm am in no way a subject-matter expert on this, just a simple observation.

Dear guys ,

Please note that i had the same issue as you on my S6 ( your screen is becoming black , and samsung grar vr is starting auto , wth a female voice !!! ) and magicly your phone after X minute is working again , but it going to be come back for man y time ) .

so first thing do not a factory reset ! the problem will arrive again because is coming from the OS ( trust my experience )

Please note also that is the problem is coming from the last update ( 5.1.1) because this one is not really made for the S6 .

here is one of the solution who's working for the moment for me :
in first we need to disable all the samsung gear vr packages , but for this action you need to use "Package disabler pro ( 1,26 € ) available on the play store "

this is a workaround solution , we stay waiting for the further update of our devices .

of the best one is to install Android 5.0.1 , then you will never get this error !!

do not hesitate to contact

Please aplogize my English .

have a nice day .

I bought the package disabler pro and although it stops the gear vr bug it now just goes to a blank lock screen that won't unlock or do anything when on charge with a normal charger, only way it charges and works is when attached to laptop with USB. .. any further insight as to how I can sort this it's a nightmare

i did that like 4hours ago and until now the problem is solved.

thanks (hoping it keeps working normal) :)

Try the following:

Unplug the phone. Then press the home button on the phone's bottom. If this doesn't remove the blank screen with the x, then do a hard reboot (phone still unplugged) by holding the volume up and power buttons simultaneously until the phone reboots (On the Note 5, volume down and power button). Please note that I did not say to do a factory data reset. A hard reboot forces a reboot when the screen freezes and you can't access the "Are you sure you want to..." popup, and it simulates removing and reinserting the battery.

After the phone reboots, press the recents button on the lower left of the phone. If the most recent app shown is a Gear related app, the problem is most likely a charging problem - when you plug in the charger, the phone thinks you're connected to Gear VR, so it starts the app and then waits for the goggles to respond. Try a new charger. If the problem persists and only happens when charging, take it in for repairs. The female charge port at the bottom of the phone is made of hardened metal and, as such, usually isn't the problem. The charge cable that plugs in to the bottom of the phone is made of soft metal. It's intentionally designed this way so that the charge cable will wear out long before the usb receptor does. We have phones at work that we've used for almost 5 years. We constantly have to replace the charge cables. We rarely see the female micro usb charge port go bad.

On my Note 5 (S6 might be different), Apps -> Settings -> Applications -> Application manager -> All. Scroll down to Samsung Gear and click on it. Click on the following in this order; Uninstall Updates, Force Stop, Disable.

Hopefully this will solve the problem.

you're very close it to the answer but not quite it has to do with the plug in the metals in the whole nine yards it is a mechanical problem but the fix is very easy and very cheap it has nothing to do with software that has to do with electronics

How to install android 5.0.1 ? I already have the 5.1.1 update bro. Help please, all my work depends on my phone.
