Nexus 5 wifi authentication problem

So I've had my nexus 5 for less then a year now and it's been fine up until a couple weeks ago I couldn't connect to my houses wifi. My network is saved but whenever I try to connect to it, it says "authentication problem." I've tried airplane mode on and off, forgetting my network and reconnecting. My router is fine, so I'm stuck here. Can someone help, it's driving me mad.

Re: Nexus 5 wifi authentication problem

Try clearing your system cache. Go to Settings, General, Storage, Cached data. Click OK to clear the cached data. Then turn WiFi on your phone off, then back on.

Solution. Recently bought a Nexus 5. At home, have a 5ghz SSID and a 2ghz SSID, same wi-fi router. Noticed that the Nexus had a crazy difficult time getting and staying connected to the 5ghz SSID on Android 5.x. Deleted/forgot both networks (yeah, I know), then added the 5ghz network (while in close range), then added the 2nd. What this does is it makes the 2ghz network on the top of the 5ghz network in your "saved networks" priority list. I also leave the "band detection" or whatever it's called to prefer 5 or 2 at "default". I've noticed based on where I'm at it in the house, it now will routinely switch between one and the other seamlessly. The prior problem I had was, with the 5ghz network at the top of the list, when on 2ghz, it saw that there was a faster network connection, but it couldn't stay connected to it, things would fail. If you have a 5ghz only network, make sure your phone is set to connect to either band. A Nexus 5 on Android 5, set to 5ghz networks only will drive you nuts.
