Spotify problems (Voice commands and lists)

Hi!

I've been reading a long time and finally got myself registered to contribute and to ask something
I am from Vienna, Austria (EU) and I am probably one of the first over here to use Android Auto as it has not been launched yet in Austria. You simply can't download the App so you have to go through an APK download an install it manually. Over here Android Auto still does some funky stuff as it mixes German and English sometimes when reading messages etc But it's not a big problem and I guess this will get better soon when it's officially released.

Now to my Spotify issues:
1.) Voice Commands
For instance, if I say "Play Metallica" (tranlsated) Android Auto/Phone replies correctly "Playing Metallica" (translated) but only starts a search on Spotify but never starts playing one of the results. Any tricks to change that? I have made a video to show you the problem.

2.) Lists on Spotify on Android Auto
They are somewhat short. It simply won't show me more than items on the lists. This is ridicilous because it totally defeats the purpose of the head unit in my opionen. I hope I am doing something wrong and it's not about safety because the safest thing would be to not drive at all. Any hints there?

I have also noticed the limit on playlists. It only shows me my first 10 or so. Very annoying.

I have the exact same problems, I am running android auto here in Canada which is also not released. I just rooted my phone and installed a ROM so will try android auto afterwards and report back.

I have also noticed the limit on playlists. It only shows me my first 10 or so. Very annoying.

Count how many taps it takes until it won't show any more items. Should be 6, right?

Phil: As you mentioned my problem in the recent news post about Android Auto and Spotify. So you don't have any problems with voice commands and Spotify?

I seems to be a Spotify problem and has nothing to do with Android Auto itself, as my video shows.

I might also be possible that voice commands with Spotify only work properly with a premium subscription.

Any clues anyone?

I was not able to figure out anything, I tried using all versions of cyanogenmod 12.1, 12.0 and each one did not solve the issue. In Cm12.1 the screen is distorted due to the DPI adjustability, while cm12.0 was creating issues for my IR blaster, so I have reverted back to my stock OS but the issues with spotify still remain.

Another note, since I am using an S5, the past week my voice commands were broken, then after the latest Google app update (May 18), voice commands returned to working normal.

I have upgraded my spotify to premium and there is no difference. Also if you press the menu button on your phone while using android auto, you can open up your spotify lists from you phone by accessing the app, but this defeats the purpose of the android auto head unit.

Update: I just tried it with the updated spotify and Google app (both may 18 versions). The lists do not work, but the voice works. When you have spotify already open on android auto say play whatever you want and it will play. If spotify isn't open yet, say play whatever on spotify. It will then open up spotify.

Note: I have spotify premium and gs5.

Crazy things happening.
Also strange for me - i can totally access my phone (like killab95 mentioned) and chooes songs etc. although I always thought you are not abel to access your phone while in AA mode.

Phil: Can you choose songs via voice command? Does it work for you?

At worked for a couple of weeks. Now it stopped working againg... grml... damn you, Spotify.

It doesn't matter if I connect my Nexus 4 to AA or if I use it directly. Playing an artist via voice commands does NOT work... again

If anyone is interested:
I made progress with this issue. I was in contact with the Spotify support in the last couple of days (they seem to be on top of their game). We found out that there is something wrong with my account which keeps voice commands from working properly. I tried a customer care test account and it's working perfectly fine with it. They plan to migrate my account to a new, clean account.

Okay. They gave me a free account and a premium account to test and only the premium account worked with voice commands. Then they gave me a voucher code to test it with my personal account and... ta ta... it is working. It seems like that you need a premium account for voice commands to work (at least in my case). I asked them if that is intended or a bug... haven't heard back yet.

EDIT: Seems to be intended. Because you can't choose specific songs in free-mode, you can't use voice commands.
