Can i hook up my android KitKat to my main PC which is running windows 8.1

Is it possible to connect my android kitkat to my pc which is on Windows 8.1 and transfer files or pictures from one to the other and save them on either, if i can what is the procedure. My PC has put up an android icon on my desktop but says drivers are not found, ive tried the driver download on line but again its saying the drivers i need are not found, any help appreciated

Welcome to Android Central! The computer should identify the phone as an Android device as soon as you connect it via USB. Which phone do you have?

In the meantime, one workaround would be to transfer files wirelessly, using an app like AirDroid or Wifi File Explorer.
