Hi, I'm using a couple of different apps to be able to locate the phone if I misplace it, which given my business I have a risk of doing since I travel around so much. But I am worried that someone who may come by my phone and doesn't intend to return it, may also know which these apps are and once he or she has seen them installed, will promptly proceed to delete them.

So, is there any way for me to be able to password protect Android Market on my phone? That way the apps can't be installed immediately giving me more time to be able to locate the phone. The "User Control " lock doesn't work.

I'm sure you've seen the applications in the Android Market that allow for PIN-based protection of specific apps. The only solution I can see for protecting against app un-installation would be to use one of these tools to PIN-protect the Settings app.

Thanks for that.

I tried out a bunch of those PIN-based App Protectors, and I've found that "App Lock-App Protector" is the best of the lot. A few of the others don't stop apps from being uninstalled, but App Lock-App Protector has a special setting just for that.

Remember, whoever finds your phone has access to your email and social media apps, it's pretty easy to get access to financial information with a combination of those two. It's MUCH safer to just use a screen lock all the time.

Idk what app your using to locate your phone but I recommended Cerberus. Has uninstall protection built in and tons of other features.

Encrypt your phone and use a PIN or password lock on the unlock screen. The only way past that is a factory reset i think, which will destroy all your info anyway (hopefully). Mine is encrypted, has been for a month or so now, and I havent noticed any slowdown or other issues at all (related to encrypting).

I also have a message in ym owner info to scroll on the lock screen saying how to contact me if the phone is found.
