I have a samsung A01 running android 10. I want to remove my current version of Spotify and replace it with an older, smaller version because the version I have is taking too much memory space.

I know I can uninstall Spotify and download an older apk file. How do I install that apk file in my phone? Would it cause any problems with my phone?

You can look for an older version of Spotify at a reliable apk site like APKMirror. I would be very cautious about others, since these kinds of sites can be risky if the people who run them don't vet the files for malware. (APKMirror is run by the people who run the Android Police site.)

You may also have to allow the phone to install apps from unknown sources. Search your phone's system settings for "unknown" for that option.

That should work, although the option to allow apps to be installed from unknown sources has developed over the years (and the menu location may differ depending on the manufacturer and/or the Android version). That's why I recommended just searching the system settings for the word "unknown."

I transferred the apk file to the phone and opened it. I keep getting the error message "app not installed". I've tried two different versions and I keep getting the same error message.
I tried turning off playstore play protect but it did nothing. What could the problem be?

Which version did you try?
