Can I sync Google messages between my two phones?

Because of the inherent nature of messaging, most apps won't let you sync between two phones as the database with the native number would be in conflict. If you want to 'sync' messages on a second phone your only option is usually the web interface. Not sure why that wouldn't work on your device (especially on a Pixel), but I've had no issues with Google Messages (or Textra, back in the day) on a tablet and a couple computers via the web interface.

Apple's iMessages does exactly this, as well as every other messaging app that's not SMS related. The Google Messages web app is seriously flawed and does not work as a main texting app for several reasons, with connectivity issues and sluggishness, lack of a search function and notifications not working being some of the issues. It can work as a backup on a tablet or computer I guess.

I've found Messages for Web to work pretty well. It sometimes loses sync with my phone, but I think that's because I have multiple Chromebooks and tablets synced, and the system might get confused sometimes. But resyncing is a straightforward process.

As with many Google things, I'd say this is still kind of a beta project, so I would encourage anyone experiencing issues to send feedback via the settings menu in Messages for Web.

Nope, it just sucks at what it's supposed to do. Same with many other family members. To be fair Samsung Messages lost sync too at times but never refused to connect or disconnected entirely.

I have one tablet only linked and messages go out of sync, cant communicate, stuck messages on my tablet, and my phone/host randomly executes the pairing without notice.

Hmm, I wonder if it has something to do with the interface with Android tablets. It's definitely not that unstable on Chromebooks. I rarely use it on my tablets, so I can't comment on how stable it is for me there.

I meant in reference to your issues, I think Googles setup is just halfbaked like everything else they pump out these days.

Maybe when it gets rebranded and features dropped it will work

Currently connected (via app) on Android Tablet, two web sessions (via an aggregator app called Rambox) on PCs, and have no issues with sync or notifications. Your mileage, obviously, may vary as you do seem to have issues. Messages does have a search feature (Google Voice doesn't, or at least not as full-fledged as Messages).

The Messages app for Android has search, but the Messages for Web app doesn't.
