Can I Test My Android Apps on the Kindle Fire?

Hey guys, I was just wondering (being new to java and android and all) if I made a very simple application using the Android SDK (version 2.3, right?), would it be possible to test the application on my kindle fire without having to upload it to the amazon store? If so, would I need to download something besides to Android SDK to develop apps for the kindle fire since it is heavily modified and could I get a kindle fire emulator? I apologize if the answers to my questions are very obvious. I have done some research but have been confused about what "sideloading" and "ABD" means. As I said earlier, I am very new to this and obviously dont plan on making any applications anytime soon, but was just wondering for the future instead. Thanks in advance for any help!

Side loading should work just fine. It means manually loading it from your computer
