Can I track my Samsung Galaxy S5 after its been stolen and factory reset?

Re: Can I track my Samsung Galaxy S5 after its been stolen ?

help me to locate or block my phone that was stolen just now

Hello and welcome to Android Central leamae8!

Sorry to learn that your phone has been stolen. Hopefully, you can track and/or lock it via Android Device Manager. See...

Find your device using Android Device Manager

You should immediately contact your carrier and get them to block the IMEI # to render it unusable. Once this is done you will no longer be able to use the Android Device Manager.

Hi. I had my S5 stolen a while back. I was not aware of the android tracking site at the time. I have started using my Samsung S3 which now is being tracked by android when I use the find my phone function. It works great. But am I able to find an option where I can write in my S% IMEI number and try tracking the S5 that was stolen? At the time I reported the IMEI number to the police for them to black list the phone.

hi
I lost my note 5 at work.
Did remote wipe reset.
can i try your app to see if i can track through emi number?

A phone was stolen in Venezuela with very sensitive data, which given the political situation in the country, the information puts the owner at risk...... most likely, the person did not activate the location functionality of the phone..... is there a way to wipe it clean remotely?

Welcome to Android Central! The Location service shouldn't matter. As long as the phone is connected to the web, you should be able to use Android Device Manager to wipe the phone. Starting with Lollipop 5.1, Android phones have had Factory Reset Protection, which prevents people from resetting a phone to make it their own. If someone tries to reset a phone without first removing the Google account that's on there already, then after the reset, the phone will require that Google account's information to be entered before proceeding.

can you please help me out with your new app?

You need to send a Private Message to that user (if that user is still even active in this forum). On the full forums page on your desktop browser, click on the username, then click PM (for Private Message).

Yes, you can do that.. we are building a app which you can install as a system app does the real job, track, locate, wipe, backup, anti theft - all this done thru simple text message.. send me a private message I will share the beta app for testing..

Send me the details

Welcome to Android Central! What kind of help do you need? First, make sure you change your Google password -- this will ensure that anyone who has the phone won't be able to access your sensitive Google data. Next, use Android Device Manager to remotely lock the phone (if you didn't already have a lockscreen set); you can also send a remote command to wipe the phone, or locate the phone (if it's on and connected to the web): https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6160500?hl=en

You can also try Samsung's Find My Mobile: https://findmymobile.samsung.com/

Re: can I track my samsung galaxy s5 after its been stolen and factory reset?

Technically you should be able to but the blunt answer is probably not! There are two distinct interfaces and their IDs that don't [and are very difficult] to change on your handset even when you do a factory reset. The IMEI number [you can find it by dialling *#64#] and the MAC address which is the underlying network interface address your phone is operating on. That one is a lot harder to find [and therfore also change]. The problem is [as far as I know] there is no one overriding unified body that oversees the use of mobile devices and their networks to cooperate with in creating a cross company system to track stollen handsets. It's very difficult to look for the MAC address or IMEI number in use if you don't know before hand what network it's going to be on. Of course anyone reading this will be thinking one of two things.

1) Who is this moron who knows nothing?
2) Why is this guy not a multi billionaire?

Both questions are entirely valid :-)
