Can I trust Samsung to push updates and patches?

I think there's still room for improvement. I'm not even sure anymore if the problem is Samsung, T-Mobile or both. My Note9 is running One UI 2.0, and it just received the May 2020 security patch on June 9th. One UI 2.1 is being sent out in some regions but it's unclear if T-Mobile will care enough to spend the resources on a 2018 flagship. Unfortunately, I need the S-Pen, so I'm stuck with Samsung.

SG10+ on ATT. Still awaiting June security. I'm spoiled by my last phone - Essential PH-1. Very speedy security & OS updates, but now shut down. Next phone will probably be a Pixel. Too bad Android phones can't match Apple for long-term support.

I didn't even consider Samsung in the past because of touchwiz and the issues with updates. However, I bought a Verizon S10+ last fall, and I have no issues with updates. There was one month where the S10+ got a security update before the Pixel.

I was at the exactly same position as OP. Had every single Note until the 3rd edition, than became tired of its bugs, lags and glitches and moved to iPhone with certainty of never look back.

Well, last year I cannot resist and bought a Note 10+ and, so far, it absolutely exceeded all my expectations. 9 months and counting, and I never faced any single bug or lag, and the updates came quite quickly and timely, every single month. Nothing like it used to be when I last used Samsung. My version is Exynos unlocked, I don't know how it's doing in other versions.

Now, I'm in position to wait for the new Note 20+ or Ultra and, depending on the new features and updates, buy one as well. For me, Samsung changed a lot, for the better. And, believe me, I really used to hate the brand because of my past experience...

You'll get your two OS updates... and you get your monthly security updates... kinda monthly... or two.

You can see in the last three years owning an 8, there have been quite a few months where you had to wait a couple of months for an update. And I think the Note 8 fared well compared to other phones like I think the S8 or S9 went three months before their FIRST update after launch.

Just hope that one of their updates doesn't break something and you have to wait a month or two in hopes of a fix.

I have been pretty lucky with the Note 8 without much issue. But I think two updates ago the GPS broke and two months later the June update... didn't fix it :-\ and now have to see if next months... if an update comes next month will fix it. There are other people on the Reddit Note 8 forum also having this GPS issue. If the next update doesn't fix it, the Note 8 will have hit it's three year mark... so that means the next update will now be quarterly... Does that mean 3 to 6 months in Samsung time?? lol.

By that time, I should be on the Note 20+.

Not the type of support you expect when you pay for a phone at the $1000+ level.

Another thing I found irritating... OneUI?? When Samsung did update OneUI I did get it on my Note 8 because I think it was still within two years old. The recent OneUI 2.1 update?? ... Note 8 excluded. Seriously?? You can't even refresh your own software to phones older than two years old and drew the line at the 9 series?? Is it that complicated for you to do Samsung??

Seriously, if I had to pay full price for a Samsung, I wouldn't be using a Samsung. That said, this phone has been my favorite to date and worth every penny of the $450 it cost me through AT&T corp pricing.

Greetings all. I stopped using Samsung phones a few years ago, after purchasing a brand new unlocked phone (top of the line at the time) only to have them simply stop putting out security updates for it within a few months. As far as I know they never pushed another update for it again and abandoned it to support their newer model once it came out.

Is Samsung any better about pushing Android security patches now? Being on the latest patch is very important to me for security. Naturally Samsung refuses to answer me directly but perhaps y'all can clue me in? Is Samsung any better about patching their devices now? What about long term support (pushing patches every month for more than 6 months after a phone is released).

If not I guess I'll have to stick with an iPhone or wait for the ever elusive Pixel 4a/5.

I have to agree here. I'm loving my Note 10+, but obviously I didn't pay full price for it. I, too, would never pay 1000+ bucks for a Samsung, with so many very good options so much cheaper than that.

Same here. My Note 9 is the best phone I've ever owned, however there was no way I was going to pay almost $1,000 when it first launched! I waited until the Note 10 was about to come out and bought one in mint condition for $475 and it was still under warranty.

I'm still running one ui 1.5 on galaxy note 10. When i call at&t they say there's no update issued by samsung. When i call Samsung they say there's no update from at&t. So i dont know what you guys are talking about, samsung is awful at updating phones still.

Which carrier are you with here in Canada? How reliable are the security updates? My daughter is looking to replace her KeyOne with something small and the only phone that fits the bill for her is the S10 as it is small enough for her hands. I have a Pixel 2XL but won't suggest the Pixel 4 for her due to battery issues.

I understand what you are saying about update reliability and consistency. Coming from a Pixel 2, I was concerned that my S10 wouldn't get updates as quickly.

I believe Samsung has improved in this regard - updates seem to be longer-lasting and more frequent - but I think your carrier and whether or not your phone is an unlocked model also play a role.

Since I bought my phone locked to a Canadian carrier this time, unfortunately (I like buying unlocked phones), I am at the mercy of my carrier when it comes to waiting for updates. However, I must say that I get some updates quicker than others.
