Can I upgrade a Moto X from lollipop to marshmallow?

I have no idea how Android OS updates work. Can I upgrade a Moto X (Republic Wireless) from Lollipop to Marshmallow?

I think the Moto X 2nd and 3rd generation are getting the update, so you should get that whenever Motorola releases it, which should be by the end of this year. You'll simply get a notification telling you that a system update is available, much like app update notifications. If you have the Moto X 1st generation then you probably won't get the update, but you can always flash it yourself.
