Can I use a tablet as the Head Unit?

Since the phone is actually doing all the work, and the display is just displaying things based on what the phone tells it to display, would there be any way to get a regular old tablet and mount it to the dash and then have it run the Android Auto interface to work with my phone to give me the bigger screen?

That way the tablet wouldn't need to have GPS or a Cell Signal or anything like that I'd think.

Yeah, I looked through a few but they were all using a tablet with gps, Cell signal, etc as the head unit itself. None of my tablets have anything other than Wifi which is why I thought id' be neat to somehow link it with my phone. I'll keep looking.
