can my phone's physical SIM be set to remain active if I install a data-only eSIM while traveling?

My wife and I will be traveling to Canada soon. Our primary service (T-Mobile) includes unlimited calls & text in Canada but data is limited to 128kbs, so I'll need a data-only eSim.

We typically use less than 2 GB/month (mostly because we rarely leave the house wi-fi network), so I plan to purchase a 3GB/10 day data-only eSim from Maya Mobile (Bell Mobility/Telus reseller). According to Maya's site, this plan supports WiFi hot-spot internet sharing, so I can use my wi-fi-only tablet as well as provide high speed data to my wife's phone. We'll be using data mostly for navigation and browsing.

As I've never used an eSim before, my question is whether I can set my phone (Pixel 6a) so the T-mobile physical SIM continues to carry all calls & texts while the data-only eSim is active?
