6 days ago while browsing Play Google, McAfee popped up a message:-
<<Wi-Fi under attack. Hacker intercepting traffic. Banking, chatting, and vidso playback aren't safe>>

Since 2 days ago, I can no longer connect to Wi-Fi. In Settings, when I go to a network I get the dialogue box

Network
Password
..................
# Show password
# Show advanced options
CANCEL CONNECT

However CONNECT is grayed out, so cannot touch it to connect.
I did a hard reset, but the problem remains. I do not know if the problem is related to the Hacker warning.

Has any one encountered this & what can I do?

That sounds a little fishy.:-\ Do you actually have a McAfee security app installed, or was this in a browser popup window? When you say you were browsing Play Google, do you mean you were in the Google Play Store app, or on the Play Store mobile site on your browser?

Yes, McAfee security was installed
I was in the Google Play store app.

Were you connected to a public wi-fi hotspot? If so, does this still happen on a private wi-fi network (like your home network, assuming you have one)?

Unfortunately I did not think about looking at the history and now I have hard reset my phone.

My concern now is what can I do to my phone

Is this on every WiFi system you try to connect?

I know this sounds crazy, but is wifi turned on on your phone?

Try going to a public area and connect to a known free hotspot.

If you are connecting to your home wifi, make sure you have entered your password correctly and are not using a password from your settings backup.

I got this message now. And could not re-connect to the Wi-Fi network after I had disconnected. Finally saw on this McAfee message popup, a box was automatically check-marked that said "Remember my choice": those choices were "Disconnect" or "Stay connected". When I unchecked that box, I was able to reconnect to my Wi-Fi network (after I had made my choice to "Disconnect").

I had the same problem today, the only way to fix it was to follow the instructions from the McAfee site: basically you will need to disconnect from and reconnect to your wifi network on your phone's settings after switching off and on the McAfee wifi security setting... when reconnecting your wifi make sure to select the 'connect' option when McAfee brings up the warning message again.
Hope this helps

How to clear the McAfee Mobile Security for Android Wi-Fi blacklist
Document ID: TS102577
Summary
The Wi-Fi Security feature in McAfee Mobile Security (MMS) for Android warns you if you connect to a network that is not protected by a password.

Wi-Fi Security also detects and alerts you of a type of attack called Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) spoofing, where intruders attempt to listen in on your web traffic with the hope of obtaining your passwords and other private or personal data. These risky networks are kept in a blacklist by McAfee Mobile Security.

You might need to clear the blacklist for a number of different readings. Read the Solution below to find out how to do this.

Follow these steps to clear the MMS Wi-Fi blacklist:

Open MMS and tap Web Security.
Tap Settings, then tap Turn off Wi-Fi Security.
Tap the device back arrow. The Web Security screen should now show Wi-Fi Security: Off.
Tap Settings again, then tap Turn on Wi-Fi Security.
Tap the device back arrow, and close MMS.
Open the device Settings, tap Wi-Fi, then Remove your Wi-Fi network. The blacklist will be removed at this point.
Add your Wi-Fi network back in again, and type in the password if prompted. A new, blank, blacklist will be created.
NOTE: You can also clear the blacklist by re-installing the application, however this is not the recommended method.
