Can one stop updates on apps?

I have uninstalled pre-loaded apps in an attempt to increase storage.
The "uninstal" command returns the app to the factory version, but does save some memory. Problem is that in a few days, the apps are updated and re-installed. Is there a way to simply stop the updates???

Go to play store, tap settings and kill auto updates function. In marshmallow you can disable some of the bloatware from the application manager...
