So I did a 1 hour session in the gym today and used my stock music player to play the music I have in my phone (not stream)...
At the end off my session, I was down to 79% battery. Took a shot and Media server was the cause ontop of music player.

Two questions
Why do two different things use up energy just to play music?
....and Why so much juice?!

I actually was. Stereo BT headsets.
Don't tell me thats the cause??!

The media server is... serving up content to your BT. Something has to work to move that music from a file to your headphones. I can't say which is the bigger culprit, but several players are involved in the battery depletion to make it all happen.

Hmm I see. Makes sense...

Def your BT headset! I listen to music A LOT throughout the day with a wired headset and I don't get the drainage you are getting. I use poweramp and my 'media server' percentage is sometimes even higher than yours!!

Google play music streams music and I haven't had.that much battery drain. I don't use blue youth.head phones but still try that or another music player and it.might reduce the drain
