Yes. Yes it can. You get a handy buzz and a little icon appears on the screen as soon as you get out of Bluetooth range

As already mentioned it'll notify you if it disconnects from Bluetooth.

You can also ring your phone to find it if you forgot where you set it down. My old roommate had an older Samsung smartwatch and frequently used it because he was always forgetting where he set his phone.
