Hi there, I'm new in town. I'm an Alltel refugee now with AT&T (not by choice). I had a non-smartphone, but the geniuses at AT&T sent me an HTC Aria, a mid-level smartphone. It was free, of course, and I have nothing against the phone itself. In fact I rather like it.

Now, I see newer phones with advantages I don't have such as uninstalling or permanently killing preloaded apps, lower battery usage, animated .gif's and so on. I'm wondering if there's any way to get an Android update past the current version: Froyo 2.2.2. Or should I root it, and would that help?

Like I said, I'm new to that so here I am. HI!

isn't the Aria at End of Life now? I know its been out for a while so it might be. But rooting and putting a custom rom can make it faster and use less battery depending on what ROM you use. I recommend Revolution HD, it can be found on XDA's forums.

BTW welcome to android central

Welcome... even though I don't own a Aria phone, my niece does. Also, CM will be releasing ICS to all their supported phones which happens that the HTC Aria is supported: HTC Aria | CyanogenMod so possible next month, you will have ICS.

I sure hope it's not at EOL. I just got it in March. I'll have to read up on cyanogen and rooting but I think I want ICS. Any thoughts on that?
