I just purchased this Type C Cable from Amazon.com-previously mentioned on androidcentral

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU4771395

I've got quite a few old charger bricks, the piece that plugs directly into the wall, from previous phones, like the old Moto X, Amazon Fire, Samsung Galaxy 3 etc.

If I use one of these with my new Type C cable, will I risk damaging the phone?

I know it will not charge as fast, but my typical usage does not necessitate turbo-charging.

On another note, other than causing the phone to charge slower, is it normally OK to use lower amp charging cables on newer phones?

Lastly, if I wanted to buy some newer AC bricks to use with my new type C cable and get fast charging capabilities, does anyone have any recommendations?

Nah you'll be fine but it will charge slower. Just make sure not to use a power brick that's TOO powerful.

Not true... The phone will only draw as much current as it needs. The power brick can't shove more current into a phone than the phone will accept. Except if maybe that power brick is very poorly designed.
