Can we use AT&T Gear S with TMobile as our carrier or vice versa?

When a GPS receiver receives signals, it already has all it needs (the clocks from 3+ satellites) very quickly. What takes a long time is to calculate your exact location based on those clocks. This is where you need a internet connection to use network assistant/cloud computing to assist you get to the location fast. With Gear S, it still takes about 20 seconds if you have a cell connection in stand alone mode.

It is my assumption that Nike+ simply record the raw data and send it up to Nike server to figure out your exact location. As a result, the app on the watch is very simple and does not display a lot of information like route map and elevation or speed etc. S Health APP displays a lot more on the watch because it is able to finish the GPS location calculation during startup.

Interesting explanation. I don't see elevation in Nike, and my HR also does not get tracked, which sucks. I can see my route in the Nike app during exercise, but the elevation and HR may contribute to the slow speed in SHealth. With SHealth, there were times when GPS would pick up only after 20 mins or so, completely unacceptable.

I've had the watch's GPS lose me when on a lake kayaking because of clouds. Heck for that matter my phone won't hold a lock when in my dry case if it's raining on that same lake and the case hanging around my neck.

In my case (not sure if it's my particular device) there is a very noticeable difference between the Nike + and SHealth GPS lock at the very start of my run, under similar weather conditions and on the same exact trails.

Mine has been quite reliable obtaining GPS lock in S Health or Here Maps with 20 seconds or so if I have mobile data connection with AT&T for a few times I used it.
