On past devices AT&T has locked them down so you can only access their 3G/4G networks, only going to 2G(edge) in poor coverage area. I like to leave my phones on EDGE often to preserve battery life. Can anyone tell me if you can force 2G in the network settings menu?

i am not seeing a setting in any of the settings to toggle 3g/4g data like have been on some other phones so it does appear to be locked to 3g/"4g"

Just curious -

How much difference in battery life can one expect using edge vs 3G/4G? I am a little clueless but I can't imagine having 3G/4G on can be a significant portion of the battery use?

Is there a reason for using edge data or why not just turn data off altogether as edge is painfully slow. Maybe it allows your accounts to sync during the day, I suppose?

Run an app called network from the marketplace. There are also star codes to bring up the menu.
