Can You Reduce Picture FILE Size in Gallery?

Wrong, I know all there is to know about graphic files, thanks for the benefit of the doubt. Maybe I should have used the more appropriate term compression, but in the end you were the one talking about speed, bandwidth, Wi-Fi and unlimited data. All of those things are related to the size of the file, not the actual size of the photo, so maybe you want to figure out what you mean first. You can have a large sized photo be smaller in file size.

All carriers automatically compress pictures when sending a text like I said (as well as others) numerous times in this thread. I assumed that was what you were talking about, not email. In any case, if that is a problem, you know you can send a text to an email address. Maybe you could try that.

Open the file in Gallery
Select Share
Select Email
Select RESIZE IMAGE
You have 3 size options: Large (70%), Medium (30%), Small (10%)

Is that with the stock email app? I use another one and don't see any options for sizing.

Open the camera and change resolution there...it will change the resolution for all the pics in your gallery. Guess you can change it back if you want super duper resolution later. Anyway, I'm finally able to send more than two pics at a time on gmail(!)

It only changes the pictures you take AFTER changing the resolution, not your entire gallery.

This would be great, except it's not a feature of the photo editor / gallery, it's the email app, and a lot of people including myself don't use the stock email app, so there is literally no other alternative than to install a 3rd party image resizer

I don't want to change the rez of my camera to take a photo I'm going to email, I might want to keep that photo in high resolution too, I need to take two photos?

It's just retarded removing such a needed feature

The main reason isn't for data usage, it's for things like my gf's phone that either won't download, or won't open such large attachments

I have no idea why they would remove such a feature. I post photos to a forum and they have to be under 900kb in file size or they will not load.

Emailing and texting large file sizes is fine since the resizing is done by the carries, but posting photos on forums this doesn't work.

When texting a picture it is automatically resized but I don't think the same is true for emailing. If I don't resize my pictures for emailing some people's servers won't deliver them. I know there are third-party photo resizer but I wish one would integrate with gallery so there is no going back and forth between apps.

Mmm.... So I am using a Samsung Galaxy J7 Marshmellow and I have started getting emails to a financial institution fail to send because attachments are over 25 MB. I use ProtonMail for the other obvious advantages it has but when I photograph documents to attach the files are to large. Most of the 3rd party photo apps want alot of permissions and control over my media, something simple would be good...

When you want to send pictures (texting, emailing, whatsapp, facebook, etc.) it will be always good to reduce the size before. Smaller pictures will send much faster and helps you save the battery and your data plan. There is a great app ("Photo & Picture Resizer" - https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...d=com.simplemobilephotoresizer&token=S_jVWCFd) which helps you easily reduce one or multiple images.

resizer, I have a suggestion. Integrate your app to work within Gallery Like was mentioned above, I'm not going to take my pictures in at a lower res and I'm not going to take two pictures (that's not even reasonable). And, it's a hassle to jump between two programs. Thanks!

monicakm, "Photo & Picture Resizer" is integrated with Gallery App.
If you are in the Gallery App, select picture (one or several) click Share and select "Resize" or "Batch Resize" App from the list. Than your photos will be opened directly in the "Photo & Picture Resizer" App and ready to reduce. After reduce you are clicking share and can easily send via your favourite app.

Master Ed has it right. Just not enough detail. I went from an S5 to an S8. Previously, when I selected a photo to email from Gallery it asked me then. I am using an email client program that came with the phone for Outlook 2013 Webmail. After you select the picture to email, it attaches to the email, and the email window pops up. Previously the attachment would be at the top. You have to scroll down to see the attachment and the option "RESIZE IMAGE" next to the attachment is in the email window. Select that and the options, Large, medium, and small open in a popup. This is why I hate to change phones so much. I am surprisingly happy with the S8 overall. It's little quirks like this that irks me when I change phones or they push a software version upgrade down on you.

This is an easy way to shrink file size of a few photos without the need for any aftermarket app. Select your photo, click on 'Edit', click on 'Photo Editor', click 'Menu' (the 3 little dots, top right of screen) the click 'Export'.
You can then select the file size/quality you require. I find around 700kb to be adequate for most of my needs.

I don't have export on menu.

It is ridiculous with the amount of sharing we do that we would have to use aa 3rd party app which creates a duplicate or change camera settings...

I have found the easiest for me is simply text it to myself. I already have the text app and it reduces it automatically... but still have dups.
