I ordered Chromecast from BestBuy the other day. The UPS tracking # says it will be delivered by Wednesday and I have a quick question:

If I am watching downloaded or streaming content on my phone or laptop in the device's native media player can I stream that to my TV via Chromecast?

From what I understand at the present time there are 4 apps that support Chromecast streaming - Netflix, YouTube, Play Music and Play Movies. In addition you have the tab casting feature from the browser. I've also read there is a way to stream local files but what about streaming from a device's native media player? It seems you cannot do this until 3rd party media player apps add Chromecast support. Is that correct?

If you can play it in the Chrome browser on the PC/Mac, you could stream it. There is also the "experimental" full desktop mirroring for PC/Mac, but audio is not coming thru at this time. Also both the Chrome tab and Desktop mirroring seems to require powerful PC, router, internet combo. I could not get it to stream video on tab or desktop @ 720p settings. 480p seems to run smoothly though.

There is no option to mirror Android device Chrome tab or full screen at this time.

What do you consider a "powerful" combo? I have a very average PC (dual-core 2.7ghz w/ 4GB RAM), Comcast router (it's only about a month old cuz I just traded in my old one) and my Internet connection runs between 60-80mbps down.

Well, I have a 2 years old HP Envy 17 laptop (i7 quad core, 8GB Ram), a 5 or 6 years old linksys wireless router, and my internet is around 35Mbps down 4Mbps up. I cannot get it to do 720p casting. Right now I think my router is the worst of the 3. There is nothing I could do about my internet provider as they are the only provider for house. And I am not ready to upgrade my laptop yet.

I'll just have to try it when it comes. It looks like my Comcast modem is decent. It's made by Arris (model # TG862G/CT) and supports DOCSIS 3 (speed 320/DOCSIS). I really have no idea what that means but those are the specs. I also have a Belkin wireless router that can handle speeds up to 300mbps and supports 802.11n. I can connect to the Internet wirelessly via both of them because the Comcast modem has wireless built-in. If streaming from the browser doesn't work while I'm connected using the Belkin router I can try the Comcast modem as well.
