cancel home internet and opt for hotspot instead?

I'm thinking about canceling my cable hi-speed internet (~$50/mo) and getting myself and girlfriend Verizon's hotspot wifi on our phones.

I'm considering the Bionic (coming from Blackberry), so I'm wondering if...

a) the internet speed will be comparable to cable using an LTE phone
b) the internet connection is as reliable as my cable wifi connection

I'm assuming we'll be grandfathered in with respect to your unlimited data plan... but does this also help on the wifi hotspot feature?

Has it been confirmed that they will have unlimited wireless hotspot?

I tried to add it to my Droid Charge last month, and I wasn't able to do it.

I would say no. Your cable internet will probably more consistent than Verizon, atleast from my experiences. And your won't be grandfathered in with using the hotspot feature. So if you use your internet a lot it will probably end up costing you more.

For example I use well over 150 gigs a month on my home internet.

Unless you root the phone you will have to pay an additional 30 bucks a month for the hotspot feature. Unless you are in an LTE area I would keep your regular internet.

One more thing, can you talk on the Bionic (or any other LTE phone) while using it as wifi?

Yes most phones let you talk and surf using wifi. LTE phones let you do both if your in a LTE area. LTE for surf and 3g for talk.

So also, is the $30/mo capped at some maximum amount?

I'm wondering if there is way to check my cable internet to see how much data I use per month. I'm on the internet a LOT!... but I don't do a lot of data intensive stuff. YouTube videos and some podcasts are the most intensive things I use.

My brother has the Thunderbolt and did this. With the new TV season upon us I think he's going to break down and get cable, but up to now he's been connecting his PS3 on the hotspot and watching Netflix on that and he's had no problems. (Though if he's in another room he can tell when you start watching Netflix because the phone gets hotter.)
