Cannot Open App from Browser

Hi,

I am using Chromium and Firefox browsers on my android. When I visit youtube.com, clicking on the Open App (top right hand corner) does not open my youtube app. On a WhatsApp contact us website, clicking on "Continue to Chat" will also complain of WhatsApp isn't installed in my phone.

How do I make the browser open the relevant apps?

Are the browser apps allowed to open app links (permissions on the phone may be needed) or are the browsers blocking links/pop-ups?

I use multiple browser, cannot speak for Chrome. Firefox builds seem to be broken, at least for me.

Many apps as you said fail to open even when the Open in App button is pressed, Amazon for example just stopped doing that all the sudden for me among others.

You can always go to apkmirror, download an older Beta of Firefox and see if it behaves properly. Specifically beta because it will otherwise conflict with your current app.

Welcome to Android Central! You specifically said "Chromium", and not Chrome. Are you actually using some 3rd party Chromium-based browser, rather than Google's own Chrome? When I open Chrome and go to YouTube.com, I don't see any option for "Open app."

Can you show us a screenshot of what you're seeing?

It probably has to do with that browser, which is presumably not optimized for Android (since it's more of a barebones Chromium browser). Not sure if there's an easy way to get that working the way you want.

I think I agree with this:

If you want vanilla chromium, I suggest a browser called Cromite.
BTW Thanks for NOT using Chrome!
