Cannot open MS Word email attachments

Huaei Mediapad M5 Lite
When I click on a Word attachment a screen opens headed drive, with a list of twenty or so Word files; when I click one to view it nothing happens. In settings it shows that Word files go to Huawei Drive with no alternative. I do not have a Drive app and cannot download one. I do not want attachments to default to Drive – is there a way to stop it – currently if I want to read an email Word attachment I have to do it on my phone or desktop.

Thanks - I had assumed that a reader would be part of the built in apps. I have installed a DOCX reader and it now works

That's good. I think Google Drive can open Word files in Compatibility Mode as well, but seeing as you have a Huawei device, I can't be sure that you have Google services on it.
