I cannot rename images in gallery app.

This is common to every gallery app I have tried. I can rename them only in a file manager.errorA50.jpg

Switched to new phone and transferred all apps and images over WiFi.

The error is:

An error occurred: java.lang.NullPointerException:authority

Ideas?

Galaxy A50 Android 11.

Does your phone have an SD card and are the images stored there? If so, you need to grant permission to those apps to manage the SD card or they won't have access to it (only view access). Similarly, if the images are in the internal storage, make sure your apps' permissions are allowing access to Internal Storage.

How do I grant said permissions? I looked in the normal permission settings and it says ALL PERMISSIONS are already granted. There is no SD card specific setting I can find.

Also if gallery had no write permissions how is it able to create a new folder on the SD Card or move or copy an image if it cannot write to the SD card?

I believe after Android 10 SD card access to non-first party apps has been removed (read-only).

I cannot rename images in gallery apps. On my phone, there is no menu options for renaming at all. :)
