Gents and ladies, this is making me crazy. Got the phone this morning and it will not give me the option to use the fingerprint sensor to unlock. It's not even listed. It is stuck on PIN. In settings fingerprint isn't listed for unlocking. There is None, Swipe, Pattern, PIN and Password. No fingerprint.

Yes the fingerprint was set up when I first set up the phone. I have been all over google and YouTube and cannot figure this out. I'm already ready to return this phone. Good grief this shouldn't be so hard. Do I sound mad? Yeah I am. Frustrated.

Did you install any app that adds device administration policies that may restrict usage of fingerprint to unlock your phone?

Check under Settings->Security->Device Administrators

One quick way of checking the fingerprint hardware in a sandboxed environment is to swipe down twice from the top and click on the small profile icon. From here you can start a guest session. If you see options to register fingerprints then the issue is in your main user profile as suggested above.

Otherwise factory reset it.

I have not installed a single solitary app. All I did was turn the phone on, then it automatically downloaded it's OS update. It set up, I went through the set up process and added my fingerprint. That's it. By the way, I also cannot place phone calls. No data. No cellular. Yes, obviously I put in my Verizon Sim card. I know that's the first thing someone will ask me.

I'm back to using my iPhone since I need a phone today.

I dont know how to help. If you really want to try it out, may be do a reset, do not put the Verizon SIM and see if you can get things working. Seems like something is wrong with your setup.

Do a factory reset and DO NOT copy apps from another phone registered under that account. Make sure to set up as new when you go back through the setup process.

I'll do a hard reset. I already set it up as new so I don't know what's going on. But I'll try again.

OK gentlemen, I did as instructed here and did a factory reset. Set up as a new device. And the same result. I do not have the option to use the fingerprint reader to unlock my phone.

Are you able to create a fingerprint profile?

Can you post a screenshot of what you see on Settings and Settings->Security->Device Administrators ?

Ok update. For some reason when I dug into administrators the Playstore was listed. WTH?

Again, I set up as a new device and did nothing but add my fingerprint.

I removed the Playstore and that seems to have fixed it. But... the fingerprint is still not listed under settings and security for the unlock portion of android. Very confusing. Completely unlike the Samsung galaxy S8 I had.

Try a reboot and see if that fixes it.

So I now have a working fingerprint scanner that unlocks the phone. Despite the fact that the function is not listed under security for unlocking. Weird.

The phone is very fast. No problems with the touch screen. I am trying to figure out why my sounds are ridiculously loud. I have made a number of adjustments under sounds with little effect. The FB Messenger ding is particularly egregious.

Damn those stupid Messenger bubbles that pop up and won't go away! I remember going crazy trying to get them to go away with my S8. But I do not remember how I did it. ;)

There are a number of Android related things I need to figure out how to change (remember, I am an iPhone user). Reversing the software buttons at bottom for one.

I'll start messing about with the camera tomorrow. That's going to be the deal breaker right there. If it cannot match my iPhone 6S+, a two year old flagship, we will have a problem.

Build quality on this thing is insane. Nothing else comes close to it. But daggonit it would benefit from a bumper or a nice thin leather case. Texting on a bezelless phone is not easy and a case would add just enough to make it easier to hold and test.

Fingerprints option will be shown under the screen lock option, not in it.it is assumed if you add your fingerprints that you will be using them to unlock the device. The screen unlock options are for when you can't use your fingerprints.

Did the phone automatically download "carrier services" on setup? If not try searching for it in the play store and downloading it.

Everything is fine now, gang, as reported in an above post. Thank you.

I am using the phone and like it very much. But photo taking is, well, as slow as being described by others. the camera app stinks. Detail is wrong and whites are overbaked. The quick HD video I took is VERY shaky. I will play around with the phone until Sunday and than make my decision, which is likely to return it.

Find the screen overlay option in settings and turn it off for FB messenger
